Mini-Jam #6.5 : In Two Hours

I didn’t really have time to prepare this in full but some people wanted a jam today so here it be.

We will be running a mini-jam from between 2:00 PM EST – 6:00 PM EST on Sunday, 17 March, 2013.

Am sick so I won’t be streaming but maybe I’ll do the writeup later.  Should have time for it, maybe.

Jam #7 : Post-poned

Jam #7 will be postponed until further notice, probably next Friday or Sunday.  As it is I have not had time to set this up and I’m very sorry 😦

Jam #5 : 1 December, 2012

Leave it to me to almost completely forget to post this every single time!

Jam #5 will run from between 2:00 PM EST – 6:00 PM EST on Saturday, 1 December, 2012.

How do I join?

Sign up here. It’s not mandatory but I’d like to get a head count.

IRC: irc://irc.boredicons.com/4hourjam
Mibbit
wsIRC

Any one of the above IRC clients, #4hourjam at irc.boredicons.com . Or if you’d rather use your own client, I’d recommend the following:

ChatZilla: Firefox addon
Miranda: Open-source standalone

And how exactly is this going to work?

Join, make something (or show people what you’re currently making), get feedback. At the end, I’ll collect links to all the running projects to feature in a post-mortem post (with your permission, of course).

Do I have to make games?

Not at all. You can draw, or something. Or sit and watch. Everything’s good.

Do I have to start anew?

Not for this jam. This one isn’t a competition, just a showcase for what everyone’s working on.

Questions? Join the IRC, or email me at thatsnail [at] gmail [dot] com.

Jam #4 : Revival

Some people suggested this be run again and therefore that is exactly what will happen.  Same rules will apply until further notice; open to theme-suggestions, a formal competition, a handicap, or otherwise.

Jam #4 will run from between 2:00 PM EST – 6:00 PM EST on Saturday, 10 November, 2012.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Jam #3 : Post(poned)

Had to postpone the Jam due to me being unexpectedly busy and also no one showing up.  Jam #3 will run this weekend instead.  The rules remain the same as in the main post.

Jam #3 will run from between 2:00 PM EST – 6:00 PM EST on Saturday, 12 May, 2012.

Jam #1 : 17 March, 2012

Jam #1 will run from between 2:00 PM EST – 6:00 PM EST (GMT -5) on Saturday, 17 March, 2012.

There will be no theme, this time.  Somewhat of an icebreaker.

Most all of it will be run on IRC (see below).

If you’re an artist, stop by and draw something.  Maybe set up a Livestream so we can watch.
If you’re a composer, same deal.  Make noise.
If you’re a programmer, make anything.  Technical experiments are cool too.
If you have no idea what you’re doing, stop by anyways.

Should be pretty interesting all around.

What is going on?

Read the About page, scrub.

Originally co-hosted by the Game Maker Community and the YoYo Games Forums, the 4 Hour Game Jam (a.k.a. Rapid Development Competition) is a friendly competition where artists, composers, programmers, etc. scramble to make games in 4 hours.  The reason we moved?  Expanding our horizons.

(That, and I got fed up with the server problems and general clumsiness of the YYG Forums.  Some really god-awful servers.)

The jam is hosted primarily through IRC (#gmc at irc.twigathy.com), so anyone, anywhere is welcome.

Any questions?  Contact us!  (Preferably through IRC but email’s fine too).
